Peter Galloway (Board Chairman)

Peter has served on the Board of Directors since 1998 and as Board Chairman for the past two years.  He served on a variety of Board Committees including the Audit and Finance Committee, the Credit Committee and the Executive Committee, as well as two years as Vice Chairman.  He was re-elected to a second term on the Board in 2001.

A native of Fort Saskatchewan, Peter owns and operates a fourth generation family farm, Galloway Seeds, with his brother Jim and their families.  He spent eight years as a Delegate with Alberta Wheat Pool, serving as Head Chairman for the Board of Delegates at the time of the merger with Manitoba Pool Elevators to form Agricore.  A member of the Canadian Seed Growers Association since 1978, he was awarded their Outstanding Service Award in 2001.  He also served on the Board of Pembina Sturgeon Credit Union from 1992 until its merger with Capital City Savings in 1998.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta.  Married, with three children, he lives in Strathcona County.

Karen Anderson (Board Secretary)

Karen has served on the Board of Directors from 1992 – 1996 and then from 2000 to present.  She has served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the past two years.  Over the years Karen has served on a variety of Board Committees including, as Chair for the past three years, the Community Support and Governance Committee, the Audit and Finance Committee, the Credit Committee and the Executive Committee.  She was recently re-elected for another three year term in March 2003.

Karen has chaired the Capital City Savings Kids Foundation since its inception in 1996 and has played an active role with the Spruce Grove Community Council since 1998 as Vice Chair.

Karen and her husband have been self-employed since 1985 and are owners and operators of a number of businesses.  She has been an active member of the Spruce Grove Chamber since 1985 and during that time served on the Executive Committee for 10 years and was the President for two years.  As a former City of Spruce Grove Alderman for six years, Karen served on a number of municipal Boards and currently serves on the Subdivision Development Appeal Board and the Assessment Review Board.  She has also been very active as Chair of the Community Policing Advisory Committee and other community policing groups since 1993.  In 2002 Karen was awarded the Ambassador of the Year Award for the City of Spruce Grove.  In 2003 she was appointed to the Breakfast for Learning Alberta Council.

Karen and her husband, Doug live in the City of Spruce Grove and have two adult children who have both completed their degrees in Engineering.

Fernande Bergeron

Fernande has served on the Board of Directors since 1997 and as Chair of the Credit Committee for the past 3 years.   She has served on the Audit and Finance Committee and on the Community Support and Governance Committee.

Born in Quebec and raised in the Peace River area (St. Isidore), Fernande spent the first 18 years of her married life in St. Paul, where their three children were born. She moved to Edmonton with her family in 1984 where she worked at setting up the Continuing Education Program at Faculté Saint-Jean, University of Alberta.

With many years of community development experience, Fernande has served as a volunteer on various committees in the French community. As the owner of a consulting business, she works on project development, coordination of community activities and group facilitation.

Member of La Chambre Économique de l'Alberta and national president of Nouveau Départ National, she collaborated on the research project "Assessing Implementation of Canada's International Obligations for Women's Equity" and was a non-government organization Canadian Delegation representative on the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China.

Fernande holds a degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Alberta, Faculté Saint-Jean.

Cheryl Budzinski

Cheryl Budzinski has been a long time member of Capital Savings. She and her husband Doug started over 30 years ago as members with Beacon Credit Union, which amalgamated with CN Credit Union, and then became members of Capital City Savings. This is her first year as a member of the Board of Directors.

A native of Edmonton, Cheryl has been married for 35 years to her husband Doug and they have three grown children (Paul, Keith and Colleen) and two granddaughters (Kaly and Ashley). Cheryl worked at Fanny Fabrics as the Operations Manager while their children were growing up. In 1996, after obtaining her CMA designation as a part-time student, she went to work as the Corporate Controller at a biotech firm at the University of Alberta. She is currently employed by ATCO Gas in the Financial Services department.

During the past three years she has held office with the Dovercourt Community League Executive as the Newsletter Publisher. She has also served on several not-for-profit boards in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Chris Burt

Elected in 2004, Chris is currently serving his first term on the Board of Directors of Capital City Savings. He is a member of the Audit and Finance Committee and the Community Support and Governance Committee. Chris is a new credit union member, and excited to be part of such a dynamic organization.

Chris is a regulatory analyst with the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board. Prior to this, he was a Regional Administration Manager with Cargill. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Business Administration degree, both from the University of Alberta .

Chris volunteers his time as a director with The Family Centre, and has volunteered with the Ed monton Community Loan Fund. Chris is married with three children, and lives in Ed monton .

Bruce Collingwood

Bruce lives in Sherwood Park with his wife Janis and their family of four teenage sons.  Bruce holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Professional Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Laws Degree, all from the University of Alberta.  He is a partner with the law firm of Sharek Logan Collingwood Van Leenen LLP in Edmonton, practicing corporate and business law.  Prior to that he was a partner with the law firm of Duncan & Craig LLP, and before that, a teacher with the Edmonton Public School Board.  From 1993 to 1997, Bruce served as the MLA for Sherwood Park.

Bruce has been involved in many professional and community activities, including volunteer positions with the Canadian Bar Association and the Legal Education Society of Alberta.   During his first term on the Board of Capital City Savings, he has served as Board Secretary for the past two years.

Bruce and his family are proud to be members of Capital City Savings.  Bruce is honored to be associated with the Board and senior management, in helping to build a strong, caring, dynamic, and successful credit union for the future.

Remi Cyr

Elected in 2004, Remi is currently serving his first term on the Board of Directors. He is a member of the Credit Committee and Community Support & Governance Committee.

Remi was born and raised in the Legal area. He completed his high school education in Legal and went on to the University of Alberta where he obtained his B. Ed. in 1972. Remi and his wife, Denise, operated Reden Farms Ltd. while raising their family of four. Presently semi-retired they enjoy their family, including nine grandchildren; while providing a helping hand on the farm when needed.

Remi has participated in community activities such as minor hockey, Parish Council, the Knights of Columbus, School Trustee on Conseil Francophone Centre-Nord #4 as well as many farm related organizations.

Peter Elzinga

In 1998 Peter Elzinga was appointed to the Alberta Cabinet immediately upon his election to the Legislative Assembly as MLA for Sherwood Park. After three years as Minister of Agriculture, Peter was appointed Minister of Economic Development and Trade in April of1998. In December of 1992, he was appointed Deputy Premier and Minister of Federal and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister Responsible for Government Reorganization.

Prior to his election to the Provincial Legislature Peter served for twelve years in the Parliament of Canada as the Member of Parliament for Pembina. In the years prior to his election Peter farmed with his brother, Henry.

Peter has served as President of the Progressive Conservative Association of Canada (1983 - 1986) and Executive Director of the Progressive Association of Alberta. He was Chair of the 1983 Progressive Conservative Leadership Convention, Co-Chair of Mr. Klein's leadership bid in 1992 and Chair of the Progressive Conservative Provincial Election Campaigns in 1993, 1997, 2001 and 2004. Peter served as Chief of Staff to the Office of the Honourable Ralph Klein, Premier of the Province of Alberta (February 1998 to March 2004).

Peter is presently on the Board of Directors for Capital City Savings, serves as a Director for Northlands Park, the 2001 World Games Legacy Foundation and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Peter is a past Honorary Consul for the Federative Republic of Brazil and formally served on the Board of Directors for EPCOR, as Vice President for Edmonton Northlands and on the Board of the 2001 World Games in Edmonton.

Peter lives in Edmonton, Alberta with his wife, Patricia. They have three grown sons and four grandchildren.

Elson Keown

Elson was appointed to the Capital City Saving Board of Directors following the amalgamation with Yellowhead Credit Union. He has 16 years of experience serving on the Boards of Stony Plain District Savings and Credit Union and Yellowhead Credit Union from 1988 - 2004. Elson has held the positions of Board Chairman and Vice-Chairman and sat on the Executive Committee, the Audit and Finance Committee and the Policy Committee. He is a graduate of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program.

Elson is a retired school principal/teacher from Parkland School Division #70. He keeps active in the profession by substitute teaching. He is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tri-Community Health and Wellness Foundation of Capital Health's Westview Health Centre in Stony Plain. He is also the Chairman of the Ministry and Personnel Committee of his local church.

Other Boards that Elson has been involved with include Family and Community Support Services Stony Plain, Stony Plain RCMP Community Advisory Committee, Drayton Valley Meridian Foundation and Westridge Curling Club.

Elson holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Masters in Educational Administration degree from the University of Alberta. He is a very active competitive curler and recreational golfer.

Elson and his wife, Barb, live in the Town of Stony Plain. They have one son, Chris, who is a C.A.

Mavis McKay

Mavis is currently serving her first term on the Board of Directors of Capital City Savings. She is a member of the Audit & Finance Committee and the Community Support and Governance Committee.

Mavis served on the Board of Directors of the merged Wildrose Credit Union Ltd. for more than twenty five years. She served as Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee, and was a member of the Executive Committee, Credit Committee and Policy Committee.

Mavis has worked in the accounting field for over thirty-five years. She is an elder, treasurer, board member and facilitator at her church. She has been a volunteer facilitator of Rainbows (a program for children who have lost a parent or sibling) and is a Stephen's Minister.

Mavis has four adult children and eight grandchildren, who are the joy of her life!

Mavis is excited about the merger and her new role with Capital City Savings and is looking forward to making a worthwhile contribution to the future of this dynamic credit union.

Taras Nohas (Vice Chair)

Taras is currently serving his first term on the Board of Directors of Capital City Savings. He is a member of the Credit Committee and the Community Support and Governance Committee of the Board. Taras served as Chairman of the Ukrainian Community Council for 3 years and has been a long time credit union member.

Taras is currently the Director of Planning and Analysis for Alberta Economic Development, where he facilitates the business planning process. Previously Taras spent 3 years with Alberta Seniors as Manager of Policy and Issues Management, and 5 years with Alberta Community Development's Historic Site Service at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village.

Taras holds Masters of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of Alberta. He has been active on many boards and committees including the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Greater Edmonton Visitor and Tourism Association, MBA Association and the Ukrainian Youth Association. Taras is married with two sons and lives in Edmonton.

Bill Purdy

Bill Purdy brings extensive governance experience to the Capital City Savings Board of Directors, having served 32 years on the Boards of the Stony Plain and Yellowhead Credit Unions, 26 of these as Chair. He has served several terms on the Board of Credit Union Central of Alberta, where he was a member of the Legal Legislative, Member Policy and Director Development Committees.

Bill represented the Stony Plain constituency as MLA from 1971 to 1986. During this period he was Caucus Secretary and Assistant Deputy Speaker of the Alberta Legislature. Bill has served as Trustee, Vice Chair and Chair of the Local Authorities Pension Plan Board. He was also appointed to the Canada/Alberta Infrastructure Management Team, the Alberta Drive Control Board and Motor Transport Board, and the Alberta Fire Training School Board. Bill worked at TransAlta Utilities as a Power Engineer and Special Projects Engineer from 1961 to 1993.

Bill is a long time resident of Wabamun, where he served on the Village Council for 18 years, including an appointment as Mayor from 1988 to 2001. He was a Director of the Canadian Federation of Municipalities for two years. Bill has been a member of the Wabamun Volunteer Fire Department since 1964, with a 13 year term as Fire Chief. He was President of the Wabamun Community Association and Manager of the Wabamun Arena Building Committee.

Other community involvement included Director of the Alberta Safety Council, Director of Edmonton Northlands, Director of the Canada Safety Council, Secretary and President of the Stony Plain Rotary Club, member of the Al Shamal Shiners, and member of the Stony Plain Masonic Lodge.

Bill has received numerous awards, including Village of Wabamun Citizen of the Year, Province of Alberta Fire Services Exemplary Awards, Wabamun Volunteer Fire Department Fire Fighter of the year, Alberta Urban Municipalities Award of Excellence, and 2003 Queens 50th Anniversary Recipient.

Penny Reeves (Executive Member)

Penny has served on the Board of Directors since 2000, having been re-elected to her second term in 2003.  She serves on the Audit and Finance, Credit and Executive Committees.  She has served as one of our two representatives on the Alberta Central Board since 2001.  On the Alberta Central Board she has served on the Legal and Legislative Committee and on the Executive Committee as Second Vice Chair.  Presently she serves on the Alberta Central Audit and Finance Committee, Conduct Review Committee and by virtue of her position on the Executive Committee as Vice Chair she is also a member of the International Development Board of Trustees and Director Development Committee.

In 2002 Penny was elected to the Board of the Canadian Co-operative Association and the Canadian Co-operative Foundation of Canada.

Penny and her husband Bob have lived in St. Albert since 1973 and raised their two (now adult) children there.  Penny co-founded and operated a small business in St. Albert for nine years. She has served on numerous boards including the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce (Past President), St. Albert P.C. Association (Past President), St. Albert Merchants Jr. B Hockey Club (Past President), University of Alberta Board of Governors and three terms (nine years) as an Alderman on St. Albert City Council.

In 1989 Penny was named the St. Albert Small Business Owner of the Year and in 2000 she received the Rotary Club of St. Albert Integrity Award.
