Introduction

Capital City Savings has implemented measures to provide a safe and secure Net Banking service.  As a user of the Internet and of Net Banking you also play an important role in protecting your information.  To assist you we have summarized some precautions you should take in using Net Banking.

Capital City Savings' Efforts to Provide Secure Net Banking

Capital City Savings strives to provide a safe and secure Net Banking environment using the latest in security technology.

The following are some of the key ways in which Capital City Savings protects you:

  • Encryption Technology:  Capital City Savings uses 128-bit encryption technology that scrambles information transmitted over the Internet.  In order to use Net Banking your computer must use a browser that supports 128-bit encryption.

Microsoft Internet Explorer® and Netscape Navigator™ both offer 128-bit encryption.  If your browser does not use this level of encryption, please download or purchase a browser with 128-bit encryption.  You can download Microsoft Internet Explorer® and Netscape Navigator™ by clicking on the respective icon below.

  • Firewalls:  Capital City Savings uses firewalls to screen all in-bound and out-bound messages to ensure that only legitimate banking commands are able to pass through to the Net Banking system.  Any messages that don't meet strict requirements are rejected and the session is terminated.  This technology stops hackers from gaining access to our site and to your personal data.
  • Internal Controls:  Net Banking transactions include transferring money between accounts, paying bills, or checking transaction histories and account balances.
  • Monitoring Systems:  Capital City Savings constantly monitors its computer systems to ensure that there has been no security attack or unauthorized access.

Members' Responsibilities for Secure Net Banking

While Capital City Savings uses its best efforts to provide a safe and secure Net Banking service, you as a Member also have responsibilities to protect yourself and your personal information.  The following precautions, although not intended to be exhaustive, should be followed to avoid unauthorized access to your personal, business or financial information:

1.  Selection of Your Access Code and/or Password
When selecting an Access Code or Password you should not use personal information that might be guessed by another party.  Your password should be unique.  Do not use your name or the name of a close relative or friend.  Do not use your or a close relative's or friend's birth date, address number or telephone number.

You should change your Access Code or Password on a regular basis.

2.  Confidentiality of Your Access Codes and Passwords
Your Access Code or Password should never be revealed or disclosed to anyone.  If you become suspicious that another party has learned your Access Code or Password you should immediately change it.  Avoid keeping written records of Access Codes or selecting Access Codes based on personal information that may be determined or accessible by others such as names, birthdays, or addresses that are similar in whole or in part to other existing passwords, personal identification numbers or security codes.

3.   Computer Access
You should not leave your computer unattended when connected to the CCS Net Banking Website.

4.   Deleting Information From Your Cache
You may have noticed a setting in your browser called 'cache' (pronounced cash).  The cache stores web pages that you have viewed so they are quickly available if you want to view the web page again, such as when you click on the 'back' button. You should use the Net Banking 'log-out' button when you have completed your Net Banking activity and clear your cache.  Clearing your cache will erase the pages you have viewed and prevent unauthorized viewing of your financial information.

5.   Email Communications
Email communications are not encrypted and therefore are not a secure means of communication over the Internet.  Sensitive member information should not be included in email communication. : If you wish, you may include a phone number where we may contact you for further details or clarification.

6.   Firewall Protections and Anti-Virus Software
Firewalls are devices that screen all in-bound and out-bound messages from your personal computer to ensure the commands meet the standards you specify.  They assist in preventing hackers from gaining unauthorized use to your personal computer.  Anti-virus software detects computer viruses and alerts you when a virus has been detected so that preventive measures can be taken.  It is prudent to maintain firewall protection and to use updated anti-virus software to minimize your exposure to these risks.
