Alberta has a rich cultural heritage and when Capital City Savings was formed in 1987, we established community councils to maintain the ethnic and linguistic roots of four of the eight credit unions that merged to form the current organization.

Community Councils have proven to be an excellent tool for communication, and ensuring that community needs are identified and acted on.  Allowing various communities within our trade area to have a voice in the credit union helps to ensure we remain member focused and in tune with the communities we serve.

There are now 13 ethnic or geographic councils Community Councils:

  • Chinese
  • Devon
  • East Indian
  • Filipino
  • Francophone
  • Fort Saskatchewan
  • Korean
  • Lamont/Mundare
  • Legal
  • Polish
  • Ukrainian
  • Vietnamese
  • Spruce Grove/Stony Plain

Nominated by their respective communities, council

members help ensure that community needs are identified and that appropriate activities are supported. Sponsorships initiated by the councils include Parkland Ambulance Authority in Spruce Grove, East Indian Vaisakhi Celebration, Legal Fete Au Village, Fort Saskatchewan Boys and Girls Club, Centre d'arts visuels de l'Alberta, Korean Language School, Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, the Vietnamese Tet Festival, and the Chinese Lunar New Year Extravaganza.
